This moving biopic follows the true life stories of Sadie and Bessie Delany, two black sisters who were raised by a former slave who became the first African-American Episcopal bishop. Fighting the forces of racism and sexism, both women endeavored to give meaning to their lives. Sadie became a home-ec teacher in Manhattan, while Bessie went on to become New York City's second African-American dentist. Based on a series of articles and the eventual book that came from them, this film follows the paths of their lives.
