VING RHAMES (Luther Stickell) was recently named 2000 ShoWest Supporting Actor of the Year.
His recent films include "Bringing Out the Dead," with Nicolas Cage and the thriller/love story "Entrapment," with Sear Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones. He has also starred with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez in "Out of Sight" and in HBO's highly successful "Don King: Only in America," earning a Golden Globe Award as well as Emmy, SAG and Image award nominations for his portrayal of tenacious boxing promoter Don King.
Rhames' other credits include the films "Rosewood," "Dangerous Ground" and "Con Air." His portrayal of shadowy drug dealer Marcellus Wallace in Quentin Tarantino's critically lauded "Pulp Fiction" was pivotal in Rhames' career, leading to his role in "Mission: Impossible" and, soon after, "Striptease," in which he starred as Demi Moore's bouncer and confidant.
Rhames' other films include "Dave," "The Saint of Fort Washington," "Jacob's Ladder," "Drop Squad," "Homicide: Blood In...Blood Out," "The Long Walk Home," "Flight of the Intruder," "Patty Hearst" and "Kiss of Death."
Born and raised in Harlem, Rhames attended the High School of Art and Music and Performing Arts (the "Fame" school) in New York arid graduated from the Drama Division of the Juilliard School in 1983. His Broadway credits include "The Boys of Winter," and off-Broadway he has appeared in "Map of the World," "Short Eyes," "Richard III" and "Ascension Day."
He is currently in training for his role as Sonny Liston in "Night Train," the highly anticipated story of the boxer's life in development for' Cruise/Wagner Productions and Paramount Pictures.
