PENELOPE CRUZ (Sofia Serrano) Already a superstar in her native Spain, Cruz is poised on the brink of stardom here in America. A film veteran with an impressive list of movie credits, Cruz was first introduced to American audiences in 1992 in the Spanish films "Jamon, Jamon" for which she garnered a Goya nomination by the Spanish Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for Best New Actress and in the Oscar-winning "Belle Epoque." In 1998 she starred in her first English language film, "The Hi-Lo Country" for director Stephen Frears, opposite Woody Harrelson, Patricia Arquette and Billy Crudup. In 1999, Cruz was the recipient of the Best Actress award at the 13th Annual Goya Awards for her role in Fernando Trueba's "The Girl of Your Dreams."
Other feature credits include "All the Pretty Horses," opposite Matt Damon and Henry Thomas, directed by Billy Bob Thornton; "Woman on Top" opposite Mark Feuerstien and directed by Fina Torres. A starring role in the thriller "Abre Los Ojos," the romantic-comedy "Twice Upon a Yesterday," Pedro Almovodar's "Live Flesh;" "Talk of Angels" and "Don Juan." Additionally, Cruz co-starred in Pedro Almovodar's critically acclaimed "All About My Mother" which was awarded the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Foreign Film last year. This spring, Cruz starred in New Line's "Blow" for director Ted Demme opposite Johnny Depp. Most recently, Cruz starred opposite Nicolas Cage, John Hurt and Christian Bale in "Captain Corelli's Mandolin."
This summer, Cruz wrapped production on the Spanish film "No News From God" opposite Victoria Abril.
