It was probably either Bruce Willis waving the torches, part of the snowmobile chase, or the take-off of the 747 airplane. Winter 1989 was warmer than usual, so the crew had to chase snow across several states. The crew was very frustrated when a nice layer of snow near Spokane, WA, melted overnight right before their shoot. They tried trucking down snow from Canada, but it turned into ice along the way. They were eventually able to get the shots that they needed. | | 21. | Die Harder Die Harder | | 22. | Although most of the airport interior was filmed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), most of the exteriors were filmed at Stapleton Airport, Denver, CO. In 1995, this airport was forced to close down for the newly completed Denver International Aiport (DIA) which has been considered a disastrous failure. The old Stapleton site is now being redeveloped. Die Harder Die Harder | | 23. | The interiors of the church were built on a stage in Century City, Southern California, but all of the exteriors were shot near the Stapleton Airport, possibly either off Montview Boulevard or Quebec Street. The fictional name of the church is Hidey Lake Community Church in the dialogue, but the entrance sign refers to it as the future location of the Highland Lake Day Care Center. Die Harder Die Harder | | 24. | Die Harder Die Harder | | 25. | These shots are also from the Stapleton Airport in Denver. Die Harder Die Harder | | 26. | Die Harder Die Harder | | 27. | This whole sequence, beginning with Bruce Willis climbing up the ladder, was shot at many locations, including Granada Hills (Los Angeles County, CA), Century City (Los Angeles County, CA), Mojave Desert (San Bernardino County, CA), Alpena (Alpena County, MI), and Sault Ste. Marie (Chippewa County, MI). The pictures shown above were shot at [1] Santa Rosa Air Center, Santa Rosa, CA (with a visual-effects airplane model superimposed); [2] somewhere near Lake Tahoe, CA; and [3] and [4] Stapleton Airport, Denver, CO. The first picture, though, might be San Francisco International Airport (SFO) instead. Die Harder Die Harder | | 28. | This scene was shot in the neighborhood surrounding the church near the Stapleton Airport in Denver. Die Harder Die Harder | | 29. | Most of the snowmobile chase was done in Denver, though some of it might have been done elsewhere. |
