The Evil Dead Reviews |
All of the gore effects are top-notch, but done over-the-top so that they remain entertaining but never become offensive. Most of the acting is pretty bad, but that aspect just adds to the endearing quality of the film and makes the characters all that much more likeable. This is a film that's known to those that may have seen it at the theaters to be one of the "scariest films ever made". Next to the Exorcist, I'm sure, but they were right about one thing -- it is a film that will stay in your mind after the first viewing. [read review] 8/10 --FrighT MasteR (UHM)
'The Evil Dead' is simply a good, entertaining movie for a night alone, or a house full of rowdy guests. It doesn't let up, keeps you guessing, and reminds you that - every once in a while - we can all use a good old shock to the system. [read review] --Ted Geoghegan (Diabolical-Dominion.com)
Definitive proof that "amateur" does not necessarily equate with "shitty." Sam Raimi has created one of the most grueling, punishing horror films ever made, and he's made it with style, imagination, humor, perversity, and blood. [read review] 91/100 --Jack Witzig (ColdSpot)
Altogether the movie is a cult classic and always will be a bench mark in horror. Sam Raimi's best works for me, not because its the best movie he made but just for the amount of work put in just to show off his talents. [read review] -- (terrorwatch.net)
While some of the effects haven't aged too well and the 'tree rape' sequence almost borders on offensive; this is an entertaining time and an above average start to a series I count among my favourites. [read review] -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
This is my favorite horror film of all time. The suspense is great, the camera trickory is brilliant, the gore is superb, and most of all the scares come fast and plenty. [read review] --Zaero (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
"The Evil Dead" is one of the best horror movies ever made. It blew away audiences and critics alike when it was released in 1981, and still does the job today. [read review] -- (eSplatter.com)
