A fire broke out on the soundstage where the movie was being shot on August 10, 2002, causing damage estimated to be around $350,000.
There is a popular Walt Disney Theme Park Ride which is said to have inspired and lent the film its name.
In order to conceal Johnny Depp's numerous tattoos, the crew had to use charcoal and strategically placed clothing. After finishing the film he got a real 'Jack Sparrow' tattoo in honour of his son Jack.
The film was originally pitched to Disney executives in the early 90’s but was rejected.
After the end credits have rolled there's a brief gag involving the monkey.
