In this romance-comedy, De Sica plays a stern middle-aged chief of police who gradually falls head-over-heels for the town temptress named "Frisky," who is played with fiery wit by Gina Lollobrigida. Slyly, the film reveals who has the real power between the sexes as the authority figure is inevitably reduced to a fawning admirer while "Frisky" brushes him aside and parodies the pawing, open-mouthed gaggle of men who pursue her everywhere. Academy Award nominations: Best Motion Picture Story.
