Plot: This rollicking comedy, chock-full of MGM stars, revolves around a daffy romantic quadrangle. Jilted by one suitor and consoled by another, Joan Crawford demonstrates a sly sense of humor and a confused heart as female lead Mary Clay. Jeff (Robert Montgomery) has quietly been in love with Mary for 20 years, but Mary, unaware of Jeff's affections, plans to marry Dill (Clark Gable) until Dill leaves Mary at the altar when he falls for the cunning temptress Connie (Frances Drake). Dill soon realizes he has made a mistake, but he might not be able to recapture Mary's love with Jeff waiting in the wings. Based on a stage play of the same name that featured Tallulah Bankhead in Crawford’s role, FORSAKING ALL OTHERS was a tried-and-true product for its time, and the witty dialogue, complex relationships, and clipping pace keep it enjoyably current.
