Plot: Ms. Davis teases us as the man-eating novelist on an isolated Yorkshire farm who seduces her secretary's fiance and sidesteps her ex-con husband's crooked friends. The film was adapted from a stage play and provides a scenery chewing part for Davis. Incidentally, Bette's main adversary in the film was played by her real life husband, Gary Merrill.
