Plot: Jonesy, Henry, Pete and Beaver. Twenty years ago they were just kids in a small town in Maine – kids who found the courage to respond heroically to childhood cruelty. In saving a strange boy named Duddits, they unexpectedly gained a fifth friend at the center of their circle. Even more unexpected were the uncanny powers he conveyed to them, bonding them all beyond ordinary friendship. Now the four are men with separate lives and separate problems, haunted by the memory of heroism, with powers that are more of a burden than a gift. When a shocking accident almost claims one of them, they don’t at first recognize the return of the eeriness that is somehow linked to Duddits. But when they reunite for their annual visit to a hunting cabin in the north woods, anticipating only the warmth and humor that nourishes them, they are overtaken by a gathering doom. First comes a stranger, a lost hunter unaware of the terrible contagion he bears. On his heels is a blizzard, a vicious storm in which something much more ominous moves – a deadly alien force that will consume some of the foursome and force those who make it to the end of the road to once again summon their forgotten strength… and confront an unparalleled

Sploosh! In this humorless, big-budget Stephen King gross-out, slimy aliens land in the toilet and someone forgets to flush.--Charles Taylor (Salon)
"Dreamcatcher" begins as the intriguing story of friends who share a telepathic gift, and ends as a monster movie of stunning awfulness. --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
"DREAMCATCHER" is a spectacular mistake, a five-star screw-up that -- notwithstanding sheer grossness, plot meanderings, inconsistency and illogic -- has given me more fun than almost any other movie this year.--Desson Howe (Washington Post)
All in all -- well, there is no all in all. There are just parts. Some fit, some don't. Some are cool, some aren't. It's the craziest thing you ever saw.--Stephen Hunter (Washington Post)
Dreamcatcher is the coolest and most fascinating film adapted from a Stephen King novel to date. How anyone could dismiss it as anything less than that is a total understatement. B+--Craig Younkin (Lee's Movie Info)
It can't seem to locate an at-least decent foundation for any of its ideas D+--Lee Tistaert (Lee's Movie Info)
"Dreamcatcher" will be enjoyed by King fans, but I'm also confidently recommending it for all with the willing-stomachs. There isn't as much horror as I would have liked, and the ending does get a little sloppy, but those things are forgivable thanks to the strong first-half and creative devices such as the memory warehouse. 9/10--Scott Spicciati (Movie-Vault.com)
Dreamcatcher is one of the most bizarre mainstream Hollywood movies ever. Sure, there have been weirder films produced by fringe elements (ie John Waters' flicks), but Dreamcatcher surely represents the oddest big-budget movie aimed at the masses. --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
Another Stephen King film that doesn't do the genre justice. --Brian Balchack (MovieWeb)
Dreamcatcher had the potential to be a classic and instead degraded into a basic action movie. --Carl Lazarevic (MovieWeb)
Part sci-fi, part horror, all drivel, this schlocky Stephen King adaptation is amusingly dreadful. --Nev Pierce (BBC Films)
If you’re looking for a smart, effective thriller, stay far from “Dreamcatcher”, but if you want to laugh at a film that could have been called “Anal Worms from Space” you’re in for an unintentionally hilarious time. --Kevin N. Laforest (Montreal Film Journal)
The film’s excellent start is wasted through its second half, leaving us with a half-baked movie that wastes its very considerable potential. 66/100--Brian Webster (Apollo Guide)
A terrific cast and a great beginning, but this soon nose-dives into derivative horror fare. By no means unwatchable but still disappointing. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
"Dreamcatcher" could hardly be called a success -- it's rather a likable disaster.--Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle)
The chemistry between the four guys is terrific - very genuine and very endearing B---Larry Carroll (CountingDown)

Every now and then a big screen adaptation of a Stephen King novel becomes an instant classic - 'Misery' and 'The Shining' spring instantly to mind. Unfortunately, for every one of those, there are plenty of others so cringe-inducingly bad that you wonder how they ever escaped the straight-to-video treatment. 'Dreamcatcher' definitely falls into the second category. 3/10--Gary Panton (Movie Gazette)
The movie kept my interest from the start and I enjoyed it all the way though, but it seemed like it was being rushed towards the end. ... A decent film, but not the best book-to-movie from Stephen King. Enjoyable, but a little rushed. Worth a rent if you've got nothing else. 7/10--FrighT MasteR (UHM)
Despite some decent effects this just doesn't work because not only it the whole premise dopey it's script is silly as Hell, packed with dumb one-liners... Probably one of the worst King adaptations on record... -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
It’s not original, the script has more holes than a championship golf course, the ending sucks, and the CGI is extremely fake looking. As far as horror movies go, it’s not that bad. But when you take an all-star cast, a renowned horror author, and a big budget Hollywood production, and this is the best they can create, it’s a major disappointment. --Anthony (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
