Plot: The latest Marvel Comics superhero to hit the big screen is Daredevil (Ben Affleck), a man blinded by a radioactive chemical accident as a young boy but left with superhuman senses and agile acrobatic ability. Like his Marvel compatriot Spider-Man, Daredevil attempts to lead a normal life by day as Matt Murdock, a Hell's Kitchen defense attorney. By night Matt becomes Daredevil, a brooding superhero fighting for justice in the dark and squalid New York streets overrun with vermin and criminal injustice. Wearing a red leather suit and mask, Daredevil leaps from high skyscrapers and tracks his enemies with his radar-like vision, punishing those who are guilty but who he cannot tackle in the courtroom. At the center of the city's villainous underbelly is Daredevil's nemesis Kingpin (Michael Clarke Duncan), and his psychotic, knife-wielding deputy-assassin Bullseye (Colin Farrell). Daredevil fights their powerful forces alone, until he meets Elektra Natchios (Jennifer Garner of ALIAS fame), a skilled martial artist and sexy superheroine who is after Bullseye and Kingpin for murdering her father. Sparks fly as the two heroes take on the underlords of crime together in this action-packed adventure fantasy that will surely delight fans of SPIDER-MAN, X-MEN, or

Fans of the comic book will probably have some nits to pick, but, overall, Daredevil does about one would expect from a movie of that name – present about 90 minutes of disposable, action-oriented entertainment. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
The maroon couch-suit is kind of cool and it's fun to watch him suck face with Jennifer Garner. But in the end, Ben Affleck can't make us forget that other red-costumed New York superhero.--Andrew O'Hehir (Salon)
The movie is, in short, your money's worth, better than we expect, more fun than we deserve. --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
For the most part, "Daredevil" doesn't take a single dare; it travels the road much trod, even if it's through the midtown air.--Stephen Hunter (Washington Post)
Really unfulfilling and also one of the worst superhero movies ever D+--Craig Younkin (Lee's Movie Info)
I didn’t hate the film, but I surely didn’t like it C--Lee Tistaert (Lee's Movie Info)
A better actor than Ben Affleck might have made something more of this, although a stronger script and a director more interested in content than in style would have helped, too. Affleck tries to register the character's inner torment, but it keeps coming out as little more than a scowl.--Ron Weiskind (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)
"Daredevil" falls victim to its own screenplay, overachievement, and the work of inexperienced filmmakers. 6/10--Scott Spicciati (Movie-Vault.com)
The gritty tone will most likely turn off a good portion of the audience, who'll no doubt be expecting another light-hearted romp in the vein of Spider-Man. Still, for those who like their flicks to be a bit more hard-edged, Daredevil should fit the billnicely. --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
A comic book based film that isn't afraid to appeal to adults. --Brian Balchack (MovieWeb)
The darkest comic book movie since Batman Returns. --Carl Lazarevic (MovieWeb)
The plot is pretty perfunctory, less concerned with spinning a compelling story, as spawning a franchise. --Nev Pierce (BBC Films)
“Daredevil” lacks the relevance and depth of X-Men and the heartfelt charm of Spider-Man, but it delivers an exciting ride with tragic undertones. It’s pretty much everything a comic book movie should be: stylish, thrilling and involving. --Kevin N. Laforest (Montreal Film Journal)
Not a Marvel masterpiece, but it’s got enough star power and punch to make it a dare worth taking. 71/100--Terri Clark (Apollo Guide)
A crushing disappointment after the blistering successes of X-Men and Spider-Man – it’s frustrating, poorly shot, occasionally nonsensical and frequently stupid. And, oh yes, it’s got Ben Affleck in it. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)

The flick misses the bull's-eye by such a length that nobody except hard-core fanboys and leather fetishists will be panting for the sequel promised at the end. --Lou Lumenick (New York Post)
"Daredevil" is an action blockbuster that's one of the biggest misfires in its genre since "Godzilla" almost five years ago. Based on Stan Lee's comic book series, it takes sunny, uncomplicated Ben Affleck and casts him as a dark, tormented figure.--Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle)
Daredevil is an entertaining movie, and a strong entry into the blossoming comic-book-movie genre. B+--David Server (CountingDown)
