This is a unique and offbeat kids' movie, which has some fun for the adults as well. It doesn’t treat kid like children, some of the time. The acting is great all around. The films suffer a little in the technical department from over used editing technique and sloppy CGI. [read review] B --Michael Miecielica (MovieJustice)
Hole-ly original, hugely enjoyable film, based on Louis Sachar’s best-selling children’s novel – coupling a great script with some superb performances, this could be one of the surprise hits of the year. [read review] --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
Sporting a ridiculous toupee and speaking with a Southern accent, Voight's over-the-top performance is probably the most enjoyable aspect of Holes - an otherwise unmemorable kids flick. [read review] --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
Rarely have I enjoyed a kiddy-flick so much - this is a movie every member of the family, young or old, will be able to get involved in. One of the best movies of 2003. [read review] 8/10 --Gary Panton (Movie Gazette)
If the law required kids' movies to be simple enough for nippers to get the gist of them in a single sentence, Holes would be looking at a long stretch behind bars. [read review] --Jamie Russell (BBC Films)
Aided by Sigourney Weaver and Jon Voight as evil grown-ups, this adaptation of the beloved children's book crackles with un-Harry-like life. [read review] --Laura Miller (Salon)
Funny, inspiring and just a little bit naughty, Holes is excellent family entertainment. [read review] 77/100 --Brian Webster (Apollo Guide)
