Beyonce in Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)

BEYONCE KNOWLES makes her major motion picture debut in "Austin Powers in Goldmember." On television she starred in the MTV modern day adaptation of the opera "Carmen."

Knowles is a founding member of one of the best-selling female vocal groups of all time, Destiny’s Child. With virtually all of the group’s recordings co-written and co-produced by Knowles, Destiny’s Child has sold more than 28 million records worldwide. Their most recent album, "This is the Remix" was released last March to rave reviews.

The group’s third album, "Survivor," was released on May 1, 2001, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s album chart with the highest first-week sales figures (more than 663,000) of any female group ever tracked and of any artist in Columbia Records’ history. "Survivor" was certified double-platinum on June 4 by the RIAA only four weeks after the album’s release and was certified triple-platinum a month later on July 2. By July 27, "Survivor" sold more than 6 million copies worldwide.

The group’s second album, "The Writing’s on the Wall," has sold over 9 million units worldwide and was certified 7xplatinum in February 2001. It has generated three Top 10 hits on Billboard’s R&B charts: "Jumpin’, Jumpin’," "Say My Name" and "Bills, Bills, Bills" which spent nine weeks in the #1 spot. Destiny’s Child was awarded the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Duo or Group for their album. "Say My Name" won the Best R&B Video Award at the 16th Annual MTV Video Music Awards.

Knowles and founding member Kelly Rowland’s self-titled first album burst onto the music scene in 1997 with the multi-platinum single "No, No, No." Michelle Williams joined the group in early 2000. Later that year Destiny’s Child won four Billboard Music Awards, determined by record sales and radio airplay: Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year – Duo/Group, Hot 100 Singles of the Year and Hot 100 Singles of the Year – Duo/Group. They also earned five Grammy nominations, winning in two categories, Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group for "Say My Name." At the American Music Awards they won Favorite Band – Duo or Group in the Soul/Rhythm & Blues category and were voted Favorite Singing Group at the 14th edition of the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. After being nominated in five categories at the 7th Annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards, they walked away with trophies for Favorite Group of the Year as well as Favorite Group – R&B.

In 2002, the awards continued with Artist of the Year, Hot 100 Singles Artist of the Year – Duo or Group, Hot 100 Singles Artist of the Year and Soundtrack Single of the Year for "Independent Woman, Part I" from the "Charlie’s Angels" soundtrack at the Billboard Music Awards. They garnered Favorite Album, Pop/Rock for "Survivor" and Favorite Band – Duo or Group in the Soul/R&B category at the American Music Awards. "Survivor" also won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group as well as being nominated for various Soul Train Awards this past winter.

Destiny’s Child has not only contributed music to the soundtrack for "Charlie’s Angels," but also on such movies as "Men in Black," "Romeo Must Die" and "Life." Beyoncé Knowles writes and performs "Work it Out," produced by the Neptunes, on the "Austin Powers in Goldmember" soundtrack from Maverick Records. This single will also appear on her debut solo album entitled "Dangerously in Love" due out on Columbia Records this fall. She also contributed her vocal talents on "Goldmember’s Theme," written by Mike Myers from an original song by K.C. and the Sunshine Band.

An autobiography of Destiny’s Child was released this past March by Regan Publishing.

20-year-old Beyoncé Knowles also acts as a spokesmodel for Loréal products. She will soon begin filming her next motion picture, "Fighting Temptations," opposite Cuba Gooding, Jr. In her spare time the actress, singer/songwriter paints and spends as much time as her schedule will allow with family and close friends. Knowles plans to attend an historical Black university sometime in the near future although her field of study is undecided.
