Houlihan shares the credit for putting together an eclectic array of talent with executive soundtrack producer Danny Bramson. "We knew we could make a soulful, really cool, contemporary Austin Powers soundtrack in a whole new musical vein," continues Houlihan, "and Beyoncé leads the way. It’s a celebration of disco and funk, with a few melodic curveballs thrown in."
Beyoncé Knowles performs "Hey, Goldmember," an amalgamation of music from three K.C. and the Sunshine Band songs, with parody lyrics written by Mike Myers and Paul Myers. K.C. gave the new rendition of his hit music a resounding seal of approval. Knowles also performs "Work it Out," which she wrote especially for the film. The song will mark her debut as a solo artist and will appear on her first solo album scheduled for release this fall.
Mike Myers, Matthew Sweet, Susanna Hoffs (The Bangles), Stuart Johnson and Chris Ward make up the musical group, Ming Tea. Together, Myers and Sweet wrote "Daddy Wasn’t There," Austin’s ode to his absentee father. According to Roach this particular number had to have "a one-two punch to move the story along."
"Austin’s band plays this song at his post-knighting ceremony party," says Myers. "It underscores how insignificant Austin feels when Nigel is a no-show at this once-in-a-lifetime event. Nigel’s just never been a great dad."
Britney Spears is another famous face popping up in Austin Powers in Goldmember. She appears as herself in a musical number dancing with Austin to her hit "Boys."
Along with a special remix of "Boys," the Austin Powers in Goldmember soundtrack includes exclusive new tracks from The Rolling Stones (performing a Dr. Dre remix of their 1978 classic "Miss You"), Smash Mouth, Soul Hooligan featuring Diana King, Angie Stone, Earth, Wind and Fire, Paul Oakenfold, Susanna Hoffs and Dr. Evil doing his ghetto anthem, "Hard Knock Life." The enhanced CD also includes the Ming Tea music video of "Daddy Wasn’t There."
Of course, no spy movie would be complete without a couple of thrilling chase scenes followed by several heart-pounding action sequences.
Renowned stunt coordinator Jack Gill not only coordinated the movie’s many stunt sequences, he also acted as the second unit director, designing the spectacular opening scene of the film in which world-class skydivers Eli Thompson and Fritz Pfnur actually jumped from a helicopter, parachuting into a moving convertible Jaguar XK8 maneuvered by a hidden stunt driver.
Gill handled every size and type of stunt imaginable in this one film: Chinese wire work, Sumo wrestling, a car/motorcycle/helicopter chase, a shoot out, roller skating acrobatics as well as some classic roller derby tussles, a couple of standard fight sequences with some gymnastics and tumbling thrown in, plus working in tandem with choreographer Marguerite Derricks on several of the dance numbers.
