UWE BOLL (Executive Producer/Director) began his career in filmmaking by studying film direction in Munich and Vienna. After studying Film, Literature, and Economics in Cologne and Siegen, Boll was awarded his Doctorate in Literature from Siegen University. In 1991, he produced and directed the surprise German hit German Fried Movie. He followed this success with the political thriller Barschel – Mord in Geneve (1992), the psychological thriller Run Amok (1993), and the student comedy The First Semester (1996), the first German film to secure a distribution deal with UIP (UA, Paramount and Universal).
Boll made his English-language directorial debut in 2000 with Sanctimony, a psychological crime thriller that he also wrote and produced. He followed this with Blackwoods (2002), another suspense thriller, and Heart of America (2003), an action-packed drama about high school violence. In 2003, Boll brought his talent for directing action and horror to The House of the Dead, a feature film based on Sega’s best-selling videogame of the same name. The House of the Dead was released by Artisan Entertainment in Fall 2003.
