Plot: Tomboy Amanda resides in a Manhattan orphanage, where she receives lots of attention from social worker Diane Barrows, whom she adores. Alyssa is the cultured daughter of rich widower Roger Calloway, and a dead ringer for Amanda. The two girls meet when Amanda attends a camp near Alyssa's home, and they like each other so much that they hatch a plan: to match Diane with Roger, so they can all live together happily ever after. But there's a fly in the ointment -- Roger's witchy, golddigging, child-hating fiancee Clarice.
