MATT DAMON (Rannulph Junuh) has been honored for his work both as an actor and as a screenwriter. Earlier this year, lie earned a Golden Globe Award nomination for his performance in the title role of Anthony Minghella's "The Talented Mr. Ripley." He previously won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, shared with Ben Affieck, for the acclaimed drama "Good Will Hunting." Damon also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his work in the title role of that film. Directed by Gus Van Sant, "Good Will Hunting" received seven additional Oscar nominations, including one for Best Picture. Damon also garnered a Golden Globe nomination for his performance, and he and Affieck won a Golden Globe for their screenplay.
Following "Good Will Hunting," Damon starred in Steven Spielberg's Oscar -winning World War II drama "Saving Private Ryan, with Tom Hanks, and in John Dahl's "Rounders," opposite Ed Norton. He and Ben Affieck also played outcast angels in Kevin Smith's controversial "Dogma". This holiday season, audiences will see him star in Billy Bob Thornton's "All the Pretty Horses." He will also make a cameo appearance in "The Third Wheel," due out in 2001, which is the first project he and Affieck produced under their Pearl Street Productions banner. Damon is currently readying a starring role in "The Bourne Identity," based on the Robert Ludlum thriller, for director Doug Limon.
Damon first gained the attention of critics and audiences with his compelling portrayal of a guilt-ridden Gulf War veteran haunted by a battlefield incident in "Courage Under Fire." He then starred as an idealistic young attorney in Francis Ford Coppola's "The Rainmaker," based on the best-selling novel by John Grisham, and appeared in Kevin Smith's "Chasing Amy."
His other early film credits include Walter Hill's "Geronimo: An American Legend," "School Ties" and "Mystic Pizza," in which he made his feature film debut. On television, Damon was seen in the cable movies "The Good Old Boys," directed by Tommy Lee Jones, and "Rising Sun," with Brian Dennehy.
