Plot: Sydney Pollack directs this wonderful star-driven romp. Robert Redford plays Norman "Sonny" Steele, a former rodeo star who has a fondness for alcohol and has been condemned to ride out onto a Vegas stage covered in electric lights to promote breakfast cereal. When Sonny discovers that his employer has purchased a $12 million racehorse as part of a merger and that the horse is being drugged to keep it from getting too frisky, he kidnaps the horse. He frees them both in an act of protest and takes off for the wide-open desert outside of Las Vegas. This inflames the curiosity of savvy broadcast journalist Alice "Hallie" Martin (Jane Fonda), who follows after him. Soon Fonda catches up to Redford and discovers the personal and political logic behind his choice to return the horse to its native grazing land far from the clutches of corporate greed. Aware that Sonny’s wishes for the horse are his wishes for himself, she falls for him in the process. The film is packed with beautiful scenery in remote western settings.
