Michael York in Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002)

MICHAEL YORK, an actor of incredible versatility whose work can be seen in films, on television and on stage for over 30 years reprises his role as Austin’s superior in "Austin Powers in Goldmember." Most recently he appeared in the independent film "The Omega Code" and its sequel, "Megiddo."

York started his career as a member of the National Youth Theatre in London and throughout Europe. He studied at Oxford University (with fellow performers Terry Jones and Michael Palin,) graduating with honors in English.

In 1965 York joined Sir Lawrence Olivier’s National Theatre Company in a production directed by Franco Zeffirelli. A year later Zeffirelli called to ask him to join the cast of the film "The Taming of the Shrew" starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. York went on to appear in several of the director’s films including "Romeo and Juliet" and in his television miniseries "Jesus of Nazareth." He went on to become one of Britain’s most famous exports, eventually being awarded the Order of the British Empire and the French Ordre National des Arts et Lettres for his contribution to the arts.

Among his best remembered movies are "Cabaret," "Something for Everyone," The Last Remake of Beau Geste," "The Three Musketeers," "Logan’s Run," "The Island of Dr. Moreau," and "Fedora."

His television work includes "A Knight in Camelot", "The Forsythe Saga," "Great Expectations," "Space," "The Heart of the Day" and "The Lot" for which he received an Emmy nomination. His resume lists over 100 film and television credits.

On stage he has starred in the Broadway productions of "Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me," "Bent," "The Little Prince," "The Crucible" and the world premiere of Tennessee Williams’ "Outcry."

His recent work on screen can be seen in the independent films "A Dirty Little Business" and "Borstal Boy" as York particularly likes working with first-time directors.

He is an avid collector of paraphernalia having anything to do with theatre, ballet and the opera. His wife, Pat York, is a photographer whose work is exhibited all over the world, most recently in Moscow, New York and at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

York also lends his voice to the new world of audio books, contributing to the success of such works as The Book of Psalms, Carl Jung’s Memories, Dreams and Reflections, Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat as well as his own children’s book The Magic Paw Paw. He was nominated for a Grammy in 1996 for his recording of Treasure Island and won a Audie Award for The Fencing Master and a Listen Up Award for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

As a writer, York has published Dispatches from Armageddon: Making the movie "Megiddo"…A Devilish Diary based on his experiences on the film and Omega Code 2, just recently released this year. Last year he co-authored A Shakespearean Actor Prepares with long time colleague, actor/director Adrian Brine. He also authored his biography, Accidentally on Purpose in 1991.

York serves as the Chairperson of California Youth Theatre, which provides a performing arts education to enrich and shape young people. The theatre group is currently making plans to develop a permanent center in Los Angeles as well as an exchange program with youth groups in the United Kingdom.

Recently, York was honored by receiving the 2198th star on the world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.
