Tagline: Angel Mercer wants to know who killed his mother.
Plot: When their beloved foster mother is killed in a holdup, four tough brothers reunite in their old Detroit neighborhood with revenge on their minds. Mark Wahlberg plays the brawl-hungry leader, Bobby. His brother, Angel (Tyrese Gibson), is a rowdy sailor with a high-strung Latina girlfriend (Sofi Vergara). Garrett Hedlun plays the young rock & roller of the clan. And Outkast's Andre 3000, Benjamin, is the family man whose tenuous mob connection may link him to the killers. Director John Singleton ably blends his action skills (SHAFT, 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS) and his gift for capturing the warm heart at the center of violent urban masculinity (BABY BOY, BOYZ N THE HOOD) to create a cooked-to-perfection gangsta stew. A soundtrack jammed with 1970s Motown classics roots everything firmly in the gritty tradition of the best of that decade's blaxploitation and urban revenge thrillers. Action highlights include a skidding car chase through snowy streets, some rough street hockey, and a bullet-intensive neighborhood shoot-out. With its talented, likeable cast, clever plotting, and sharp dialogue, this is a real crowd-pleaser that nonetheless doesn't shy away from depictions of street violence. There's not an ounce of fat on it--no extraneous romance, and no going "straight" at the end. Terrence

It connects with underlying moral currents in the way Westerns used to, back before greed, fear, anger and "society" provided action movies with all the motivation they needed. --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
If it's hardcore, blood-spattered vengeance you want, Four Brothers the summer movie for you. --Kit Bowen (Hollywood.com)
Call this one a mixed helping of venom and vigor. The actors are game, and imaginative touches (a showdown on ice) can be found, but Four Brothers doesn't have quite the right kick, either as an over-the-top revenge saga or as a moving story about four men whose bonds run deeper than even they're aware. C+--Robert Denerstein
Keep in mind, the language in this movie is as rancid as a Red Wings locker room after a loss. And there's only a little mystery here -- you know the bad guys are going to get it. --Michael Machosky
“Four Brothers” is an unapologetic anachronism, and one that doesn’t require a whole lot of thought, making it a perfect accompaniment for the “back to school” time of year. --Pete Vonder Haar (FilmThreat.com)
Go see this one in the theaters soon as you'll want the crowd involved for the complete experience. It's date safe as well, so grab a honey and hit the theaters. --John
Save for the “Lethal Weapon” conclusion to one of the many storylines, and the general laying of whoppers as the film trucks along, “Four Brothers” is just loopy enough to work. Propelled solely by blind gumption, Singleton finally gets one right. --Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
As Hollywood-ized as the details are, the overall picture feels independent and honest. B--Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
The month of August may not have much to offer in the way of cinematic excellence, but “Four Brothers” is guaranteed to be one of the most entertaining trips to the movies you’ll take all year. --Jason Zingale

All in all, Four Brothers, despite being probably one of the most "unbelievable movies that is supposed to be believable" ever made, is a decent matinee-type movie and probably even a better rental. If you want to see lots of guns, tonnes of violence, a handful of dead bodies and Mark Wahlberg and Tyrese trying to convince us they can play hockey, then Four Brothers is the movie for you. I wouldn't say I loved this movie but it was okay and okay isn't always a bad thing. 6.5/10--Brendan Cullin
Four Brothers straddles that wonderful line of film that you forget pretty quickly, neither great enough to preach about nor bad enough to work up a good old fashion hate for. If you're in dire need of an entertainment fix this will work, but you'll still feel a bit hungry afterwards. C--Laremy Legel
Four Brothers is by no means a film that’ll be in the Oscar race, but it will definitely be the most fun you have at the movies this summer. A--Rob Alicea (TheCinemaSource)
