Suzette (Goldie Hawn) and Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) were groupies in their heyday, partying with the likes of Frank Zappa (who dubs them the Banger Sisters), Jim Morrison, and virtually every other rock star and roadie that passed through Los Angeles. Twenty years later, Suzette is a bartender who finds herself too old to stay in the Los Angeles rock scene. Distraught, she heads to Phoenix in search of her former best friend, picking up neurotic and quirky Harry (Geoffrey Rush) at a gas station along the way. But when Suzette arrives in Phoenix, she is surprised to find that her once wild friend may as well be a different person. Married to a lawyer with political aspirations and the mother of two teenage daughters, Vinnie is now LaVinia, a refined, cultured pillar of the community. With Suzette back in town, LaVinia is confronted with her past and finds that she must make peace with it to fully embrace her true self. Hawn and Sarandon are well cast, and Rush is a scene-stealer as a wounded man who finds new inspiration in Suzette. Writer Bob Dolman makes his directorial debut with THE BANGER SISTERS.

For thinly scripted fluff, The Banger Sisters sure is a lot of fun. With Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon as former groupies now settling into their fifties, this predictable comedy gets a zesty boost of vitality and unsentimental nostalgia. Trouble is, Lavinia (or Vinnie, played by Sarandon) is an uptight Phoenix housewife with a lawyer husband, two spoiled daughters, and a calendar full of charity benefits. Free-spirited Suzette (Hawn) remained true to their past as the notorious rocker-lovin' Banger Sisters, and when she visits Vinnie after decades apart, it's not long before Vinnie rediscovers the lively self she'd buried under her drably expensive wardrobe. It's conspicuously formulaic, with Geoffrey Rush as another buttoned-up character liberated by Suzette's fun-loving wisdom. And yet, as Goldie channels the "Penny Lane" vibe that her daughter, Kate Hudson, brought to Almost Famous, this light and laugh-worthy movie reminds us that it's never too late to indulge a bit of rock & roll abandon. --Jeff Shannon

In the late ‘60s, it would have been hard to find a rock star who didn’t have Suzette (Goldie Hawn) or Vinnie (Susan Sarandon) on his arm ... or attached to his leg. The self-proclaimed belles of the rock ‘n’ roll ball rocked the worlds of every music legend whose pants they could take off - and they have the pictures to prove it. But its been more than two decades since THE BANGER SISTERS earned their nickname - or even laid eyes on one another. Vinnie is now Lavinia - a prim, suburban mother, wife, and pillar of the community, more at home at a garden party than a mosh pit. Suzette is still her brassy self- plus a few tattoos and a remarkably increased bust line. When Suzette’s world comes crashing down, she sets off in search of the one friend who might be able to rescue her, or at least give her a few thousand bucks. The reunion of THE BANGER SISTERS is the collision of two women’s worlds: one who’s living in the past, and one who’s hiding from it. Together they learn the value of living in the moment.

They were a pair of groupies who rocked the worlds of every late '60s music legend with a guitar and a Y chromosone! Now, over two decades later, Suzette is still her brassy self and Lavinia is a prim, proper suburban wife and mother. Their two different worlds are about to collide!
