Plot: This Lifetime TV movie concerns a shocking event in a peaceful village of Amish farmers. A small child is found dead, and the locals cannot decide whether it was caused by nefarious means, or if it was a simple accident. Ellie Harrison (Mariska Hargitay) is the lawyer in charge of getting to the bottom of the mystery, while also defending her client, Katie (Alison Pill), who is the mother charged with murdering her own offspring. Katie insists she never even gave birth to the baby, despite evidence to the contrary, and Ellie finds this and other revelations to be an eye-opening surprise as she attempts to blend in with the Amish community. An intelligent thriller that tackles a number of pertinent issues, THE PLAIN TRUTH was one of the most-watched films on cable in 2004.
