Plot: Set amid the chaos of pre-revolutionary China, small time thief, Sing, aspires to be one of the sophisticated and ruthless Axe Gang whose underworld activities overshadow the city. Stumbling across a crowded apartment complex aptly known as "Pig Sty Alley," Sing attempts to extort money from one of the ordinary locals, but the neighbors are not what they appear. Sing's comical attempts at intimidation inadvertently attract the Axe Gang into the fray, setting off a chain of events that brings the two disparate worlds face-to-face. As the inhabitants of the Pig Sty fight for their lives, the ensuing clash of kung fu titans unearths some legendary martial arts Masters. Sing, despite his futile attempts, lacks the soul of a killer, and must face his own mortality in order to discover the true nature of the kung fu

A hyperkinetic, Looney Toons inspired combination of kung fu, comedy and action that will leave you alternately awestruck and laughing out loud. --Vic Holtreman
However, even if you aren't one to be blown away by special effects, you may just be blown away by how relentlessly imaginative Chow's vision is, in this potpourri of action, comedy and thrills galore. --Vince Leo (Qwipster.net)
Very few comedies actually make me actually laugh out loud. I did not have high expectations of a film with a title like KUNG FU HUSTLE. Martial arts films usually do not do much for me. To say I laughed out loud is one of the highest compliments I can give a comedy. All my low expectations were dashed. This film written by, directed by, and starring Stephen Chow was the funniest comedy I saw in 2004. 8/10--Mark R. Leeper
Those who want to see "Kung Fu Hustle" will undoubtedly love it. Those who don't...absolutely won't. --Scott Weinberg (eFilmCritic.com)
In this modern dark age, Chow's warm purely-for-pleasure attitude not only serves the purpose of amusing the jaded but is a welcome breath of fresh air. --Lucas Stensland (eFilmCritic.com)
The camera in "Kung Fu Hustle" is never where you expect it to be, and it never moves the way you think it's going to. It is a perfect match for the movie itself, which is wildly funny and inventive, a giddy re-imagining of martial-arts flicks that mightbe one of the most audaciously entertaining films of the year.
