Julie Andrews in Princess Diaries, The (2001)

One of the most gifted and beloved stars of Broadway and Hollywood, JULIE ANDREWS' (Clarisse) remarkable career in film, theatre, television and recording arts spans several decades and numerous honors for her work. "The Princess Diaries" marks Andrews' first feature film for Walt Disney Pictures since making her motion picture debut in "Mary Poppins," for which she earned an Academy Award for Best Actress, as well as honors from the British Academy and the New York Film Critics Circle. Andrews received her second Academy Award nomination for her role as Maria in the screen version of the Rodgers & Hammerstein stage hit "The Sound of Music," and she was nominated a third time by the Academy for her performance in the film musical "Victor/Victoria," for which she also earned a Golden Globe Award.

Andrews starred earlier this year in the English film version of Noel Coward's "Relative Values," and she portrayed herself in a cameo appearance in the forthcoming film "Unconditional Love," starring Rupert Everett, Kathy Bates and Dan Aykroyd, directed by P.J. Hogan. Her other films include "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Darling Lili," "SOB.,"" 10," "That's Life" and "Hawaii."

Andrews received critical and popular acclaim for her Broadway debut in "The Boy Friend," and additional accolades for her creation of the role of Eliza Doolittle in Lerner and Loewe's "My Fair Lady" with Rex Harrison. She later returned to Broadway to star in "Camelot" opposite Richard Burton, and more recently, she starred in the hit stage version of "Victor/Victoria."

Andrews is the author of several children's books, including The Last of the Real Great Whangdoodles,and Mand ,which, respectively, have maintained best-seller status for over 25 years. Additionally Little Bo which was released last year (and re-released this year as a CD/book) has been a top seller for Hyperion Books. A Little Bo sequel is due out in the fall of 2001. Andrews also co-authored with her daughter Emma Walton, a successful series of children's books — the Durnpy series, which features illustrations by Tony Walton. Hyperion Books released the first two installments of Dumpy last year and one more will be released this fall (Dumpy Saves Christmas) and yet another installment to be released in 2002 (Dumpy and the Big Storm). Andrews' television series for ABC, "The Julie Andrews Hour," earned eight Emmy Awards, and her numerous specials include "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" and "Julie and Carol Together Again," with her friend Carol Burnett. She recently starred with Christopher Plummer in the live television event "On Golden Pond."

Among Andrews' many charitable and philanthropic activities is her role as United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women,

Ms. Andrews was honored this year by The Society of Singers, at a star-studded gala celebrating her incomparable career achievements.
