Plot: Lincoln Six-Echo (McGregor) is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the “The Island”—reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet. But Lincoln soon discovers that everything about his existence is a lie. He and all of the other inhabitants of the facility are actually human clones whose only purpose is to provide “spare parts” for their original human counterparts. Realizing it is only a matter of time before he is “harvested,” Lincoln makes a daring escape with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta (Johansson). Relentlessly pursued by the forces of the sinister institute that once housed them, Lincoln and Jordan engage in a race for their lives to literally meet their

Don't expect filet mignon with The Island; this is hamburger. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
If only some of that product placement coin was spent on working on a few more drafts of the screenplay, “The Island” could have been a much better film. --Michael Ferraro (FilmThreat.com)
Reviews, including this one, are bound to give away some of the story, but part of the fun of The Island is getting swept up into the action as it happens. I highly recommend two things: seeing this movie on a hot summer afternoon and knowing as little about it as possible beforehand. As for the latter recommendation, try to forget everything I just said. Sorry! --SARAH CHAUNCEY (Reel.com)
In a perfect world, The Island could have been a sort of Minority Report meets The Truman Show. Instead, it ends up being a big-budget Logan's Run, albeit one with a great opening third. But it doesn't last. After 2 1/2 grueling hours of this, you'll be begging for a trip to the island yourself. A real island, I mean. Not the movie. --Christopher Null (FilmCritic.com)
And while it is too long and runs on automatic pilot toward the predictably concussive conclusion, it is just taut, succinct and entertaining enough to obscure how ridiculous it is. --DUANE DUDEK
"The Island" is sketchy and messy on several levels, but it's also plain ol' escapist fare that boasts a lot of zing, two characters you'll actually care about, and just enough of a brain to keep me from being insulted. --Scott Weinberg (eFilmCritic.com)
Perhaps The Island will get you thinking about the adverse effects of human cloning. Oh, who are we kidding? We just want to see cars crash, stuff get blown up and Scarlett Johansson. This is a Michael Bay movie, after all. --Kit Bowen (Hollywood.com)
...The Island is glossy, energetic and decently entertaining, despite being over-produced, uneven and vaguely guilt-inducing. Given current low-riding box office receipts though, The Island ought to have no trouble soaring through the summer season with respectable grosses and reasonably satisfied product-sponsored audiences --Annie Gilbert

Overall I'd have to say The Island is a very enjoyable summer action movie and a tier higher than anything Micheal Bay has done. If you have already seen Batman and War Of The Worlds this is definitely another sweet movie this summer to add to the list. 7.5/10--Cosmo Kramer
I won't spoil the surprises - such as they are. I will tell you that this mixture of sci-fi musing and crash- and-burn chaos packs a wallop only when metal crashes against metal. C+--Robert Denerstein
Besides a lively Scarlett Johansson, there's not much to derivative clone film 'The Island' --Michael Sragow
...The Island is nowhere near as bad as its poor box office suggests, it’s simply that director, Michael Bay insists on squandering the film’s intelligent premise in favour of overblown action sequences. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
