Over the past decade, STEPHEN HEREK (Director) has evolved into one of Hollywood's most respected and successful film directors. His films have grossed a combined total of over one billion dollars to date.
Most recently, Herek directed Rock Star, starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston. He directed the live action feature 101 Dalmatians, starring Jeff Daniels and Glenn Close as Cruella DeVil. The critically acclaimed Mr. Holland's Opus earned Herek a nomination as Outstanding Director, Feature Film, by the Family Film Awards. After graduating from the University of Texas, Herek moved to Los Angeles in the early 1980s. He began his career working for Roger Corman Productions as a film editor, making his feature film directorial debut in 1985 with Critters, a film he also co wrote. A sci-fi comedy, Critters spawned two sequels and was one of the top-grossing independent films of the last ten years.
In 1987, Herek directed the outrageous — and outrageously popular — time- traveling teen comedy Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Not only was the film a box- office smash, it gave birth to a whole new "kidspeak" vocabulary that swept the country and had American teenagers spouting phrases like "Dude!" "Excellent!" and "No Way!" long after Adventure and its sequel left the theatres.
Herek's other credits include the Disney's box office hit The Mighty Ducks, a film that produced a successful sequel as well as an entire National Hockey League franchise. In addition, Herek is credited with Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead!; the re-make of The Three Musketeers, starring Chris O'Donnell, Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland; and Holy Man starring Eddie Murphy.
