At any rate, crossover appeal is minimal. There's almost nothing here for an average movie-goer, even one who likes dumb action and bloodsoaked horror. Doom is a waste of time and money. Of course, there is one element of the movie that invites interactivity: talking back to the screen about the stupidity of the characters, the screenwriters, the director, and yourself for wasting $10 and two hours. [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
Meant to jolt the fans of the game awake with a direct homage, it does successfully achieve some much needed carnage, but it also stops the movie dead, and should remind the viewer (yet again) that playing the actual game is much more fun than seeing a terrible movie version of it. [read review] --Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
The disappointment I feel regarding "Doom" does not stem from high expectations or from shoddy formula filmmaking. It comes from the fact that this flick promised me a ton of kickass action, and it failed to deliver. You'll feel like you ordered a steak and got a meatball. [read review] --Scott Weinberg (eFilmCritic.com)
...gave me polished visuals, gnarly guns, sly nods to the game and some ugly creatures. Too bad it forgot to take its adrenaline shot in the morning where it rarely capitalized on the game’s action driven and shoot them up nature. I would’ve needed to see more creatures, witness conflicts that lasted longer than 5 seconds a clip and a tighter narrative to call this one the “fun cheese” it should’ve been. As is, DOOM was a fairly un-exciting action horror flick. [read review] --'The Arrow' (Arrow)
...To complete the unhappy list, Pierce-Roberts’ photography emphasizes darkness and shadows to such an extent that it’s often impossible to discern exactly what’s going on. Of course, with a movie as terrible as “Doom,” that’s not entirely a bad thing. [read review] F
When the video game-to-movie thing becomes this literal, it only makes you wonder why anyone would want to see a big-screen "Doom" at all. Even I know that it's more enjoyable to play yourself than watch someone else having all the fun. [read review]
Let's not kid ourselves. Doom isn’t a storytelling tour-de-force. ... There’s something about an extra chromosomal pair, a human experiment gone awry and an ungainly plot thread between Karl Urban and Rosamund Pike... [read review] --J.P. Mangalindan (MovieWeb)
Doom is a so-so movie that has its moments, some good and some awful, but isn't anywhere near the landmark work in the world of movies as it was when it changed the video game scene forever back in 1993. [read review] --Vince Leo (Qwipster.net)
Doom initially sticks to the story of the videogame, but smartly deviates from it when the plot starts to become cliché. It goes in an unexpected direction and the result is a much more captivating film. [read review] --Julian Roman (MovieWeb)
I'm bewildered. Exactly how easy would it have been to get this film right? All we needed was pulse-pounding action with grunts blowing hellspawn away. Hellspawn. Not mutated scientists. [read review] -- (slasherama.com)
The movie takes a major turn for the worse when it sways from the video game’s original storyline. What are the creatures you ask? Well they certainly aren’t from Hell... [read review] --Mr Disgusting (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
The result is a film that is not only less fun and exciting than playing the game for 105 minutes, it isn’t even as exciting as reading the instruction booklet. [read review] --Peter Sobczynski (eFilmCritic.com)
Doom is, at best, a rainy Saturday afternoon time-killer. Just don't waste too much time on it or you might end up writing movie reviews for free. [read review] 5/10
In fact, what fun there is in "Doom" is only at the film's expense, laughing at its flimsy story and its goofy pseudo-scientific dialogue. [read review] D --Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
I only wish its first hour had taken some lessons from its final act; giving us more action, monsters, kills and creativity! [read review] 6/10 --'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
It's also depressing. The only way this movie becomes any fun is when it stops impersonating a game and simply becomes one. [read review] --Wesley Morris (Boston Globe)
Although it's predictable and un-scary, it's a surpisingly entertaining action/horror flick. Check it with an open mind. [read review] 7/10 --FrighT MasteR (UHM)
In the end though, Doom is a fun ride. It's simple, mindless, action entertainment in good old 80's tradition. [read review] 7/10 --Albert Koleba (thefilmasylum.com)
Fans of the game may love it, but the sequence will be a prolonged annoyance to everyone else. [read review] D
"Doom" has one great shot. It comes right at the beginning. It's the Universal logo. [read review] --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
