Rodrigo Garcia ("Passengers," "Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her") will helm the $4.5 million ensemble drama "Mother and Child" for Mockingbird Pictures and Cha Cha Cha says The Hollywood Reporter.

Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu will produce the film which follows the intersecting lives of a 50-year-old woman, the daughter she gave up for adoption 35 years ago and a black woman looking to adopt a baby.

Garcia has been working on the script for more than seven years. Shooting begins in Los Angeles in late December or January.
