Plot: Mrs. Laura Henderson (Judi Dench) may be a widow but she is by no means going to spend the rest of her days playing bridge. The Windmill Theater becomes her game and the infamous showman Vivian Van Dam (Bob Hoskins) becomes her partner and fiercest opponent. The Germans are bombing London but the roar of the Windmill is all that can be heard, as Laura convinces Lord Cromer (Christopher Guest) to allow her actresses to be the one thing no one could ever imagine: Nude. Brought to its knees by war, what Mrs. Henderson Presents brings a nation to its feet in applause.

It’s a good story, well told and well acted, and the kind of film, like Calendar Girls, that you could enjoy with your gran. 8/10--Michelle Thomas (FutureMovies.co.uk)
It offers a feel-good experience, but without the heavy dose of schmaltz that often accompanies such a production. It comes highly recommended and is right at home in the company of other end-of-the-year "prestige" pictures. It is also one of the first titles to bear the standard of the newly-formed "Weinstein Company." --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
"Mrs. Henderson Presents" is odd kin to last year's similarly set "Being Julia," which garnered a lot more buzz (and, indeed an Oscar nomination) for the overripe acting of its star, an American playing a Brit. Here, true Brit Dench takes a tailor made role and effortlessly slips it on. B-,B---Robin and Laura Clifford
“Mrs. Henderson Presents” bestows Dench with a distinctive role, and her feisty enthusiasm saves the picture from becoming obese with narrative ambition. --Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
Crowd-pleasing musical drama from Stephen Frears, featuring an Oscar-baiting performance from Judi Dench. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
Unfortunately, the movie forgets its sense of humor in the last act, taking a few unwelcome dramatic turns, and it feels like a bit of a letdown in the end. It's saved overall by vintage Dench and Hoskins, doing what they do best. 7/10--Jeffrey Chen (WindowToMovies.com)

Would it have been possible to make a film ABOUT nudity without actually featuring any nudity? Perhaps. But maybe that would have defeated part of the film's point, which was to demonstrate that nudity is not the same thing as sexuality. Indeed, while nudity (mostly in the form of topless ladies) abounds here, there is no sex. Is it a "dirty movie" anyway? Depends on your point of view. Is it funny? Oh yes. Did I mention Judi Dench wears a bear costume? B--Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
All in all, “Mrs. Henderson Presents,” despite some really feeble plot turns, will go down easily enough with older audiences on the basis of its strong lead performances, its hints of harmless naughtiness and its appeals to sentiment... C+--Frank Swietek
