Tagline: On August 18th Summer Really Begins
Plot: SNAKES ON A PLANE's magnificently self-explanatory title triggered a cascade of buzz and anticipation, and fans of truth in advertising will be relieved to learn that the movie lives up to its billing in every way: there are many snakes, they are on an airplane, Samuel L. Jackson is there to show them who's boss, and the results are just as fun as they are silly. Jackson stars as Nelville Flynn, an FBI agent escorting a witness (Nathan Phillips) on a flight to Los Angeles. Phillips is supposed to testify against an evil mobster, but the details really aren’t important, and the filmmakers are smart enough to focus on what counts: a variety pack of poisonous snakes is released mid-flight. To make matters worse, the snakes are crazed and violent because of pheromones, leading to the truly classic Samuel L. Jackson line, "Great. Snakes on crack."With the notable exception of Jackson, most of the cast couldn't act its way out of an airplane barf bag, but that’s probably for the best, as good performances would only serve as a distraction from the snakes--who have no trouble springing out of luggage compartments, toilets, and even mouths. The flight includes a standard array of monster-bait, including an arrogant rapper (Flex Alexander), his bodyguard (Kenan Thompson), a flight

...New Line Cinema would like us to believe that Snakes on a Plane is somehow a "cultural phenomenon." This isn't accurate. There's another, better term to describe it: a cult film. That means a small, select group of people are going to love it, but themajority of viewers are going to be unimpressed. Take that into consideration before deciding whether or not to board this flight. --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
...is not a film for everyone. Action-thriller-horror movies generally get killed by critics and "SoaP" will probably be no different, because it's filled with unrealistic situations, character clichés, and corny dialogue. It's rare for me to say these days that a movie was worth the price of admission, but having said that, "SoaP" is simply amazing fun. Ellis takes the phobias of flying on a plane and snakes to a whole different level, and I've never had so much fun at a movie theater before. 8.5/10--Thomas R. Tinneny (ComingSoon.net)
A movie about snakes on a plane does not need to be straightforward; the material is just too thin. It only has a shot if it is either genuinely scary or so incredibly over the top it's funny. "Snakes on a Plane" is neither, but maybe "Snakes on a Boat" will be better. 4/10--Joshua Starnes (ComingSoon.net)
If you're looking forward to this movie, even with the slightest hint of skepticism, you're likely to be pleasantly surprised by how well it delivers on the fun and scares. There haven't been any entertaining summer popcorn movies that have you cheering and shouting at the screen in a long time, so try to see it with a packed theatre full of fans ready to have a bit of fun with the premise, because that greatly adds to the experience. 8/10--Edward Douglas (ComingSoon.net)

I guess this officially makes me a curmudgeon, but “Snakes on a Plane” is actually quite a poorly made film, and offers little entertainment value to those who aren’t in on the hype. The greatest trick New Line Cinema ever pulled was convincing the worldthat it had something of great amusement behind their decision to hold “Snakes” from view up to the last minute. Now that the slither is out of the bag, let the yawns begin. D--Brian Orndorf (FilmJerk.com)
Hideous deaths turned into lighthearted entertainment.--Kirk Honeycutt (Hollywod Reporter)
Hugely enjoyable, unashamedly trashy thriller that works perfectly, delivering shocks, scares, laughs and cheers in equal measure. Oh and snakes. Lots of snakes. On a plane. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
