Tagline: Based on true events
Plot: It was supposed to be the vacation of a lifetime in the Australian Outback – full of fun, sun and adventure. But what happened to a trio of twenty-something backpackers took a wrenching detour into the depths of unrelenting terror. Based on true events, WOLF CREEK is the haunting story of their unthinkable ordeal – a mounting white-knuckle nightmare so real it was destined to become horror legend. WOLF CREEK is a startlingly intense motion picture experience of rapidly escalating dread and suspense. At the 2005 Sundance Film Festival, the film – written and directed by Melbourne's Greg McLean – was acclaimed as a daring, original blend of visually hypnotic thriller with unbearably scary movie. The chillingly believable events begin as freewheeling, college-aged pals Liz (Cassandra Magrath), Kristy (Kestie Morassi) and Ben (Nathan Phillips) head out for a holiday hike in stunning Wolf Creek National Park to see its mysterious meteor crater. When they return, their car won’t start. Trapped in the vast emptiness of the wilderness – all they can do is wait for rescue. Luckily, as night falls, along comes colorful local bushman Mick (John Jarratt) and his massive truck, offering a tow to safety. I thought “Wolf Creek” was as unpredictable and as cliché-defying as they come. I’ve heard comparisons of this film to the original “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Open Water”, and “Blair Witch Project” and while all of these are notable comparisons, “Wolf Creek” definitely creates its own existence. -- (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
Wolf Creek is nothing more than the Australian man's Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While we're on it, there's another film that's a little to liberal with a certain title card... --Joe Utichi (FilmFocus.co.uk)
McLean also does a splendid job focusing on first one protagonist and then the next, thus preventing us from guessing in advance who will survive and who won't, as the film never seems to favor anyone. The showdowns between the three figures and their enemy are suspenseful, frightening and often surprising, even for viewers who have seen their share of these movies. There will be, I suspect, not a dry seat in the house. B---Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
Wolf Creek is well-made and well-acted but it’s also a horrific, downbeat and viciously nasty horror flick that’s often extremely difficult to watch – you have been warned. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
I was bummed after this film; to think that shite like this goes down in our world…planet earth freaking sucks! Now granted, the pacing was “slow burn” (that might turn some off…not me) and 2 dumb “character moves” could’ve easily been written into “smart moves”, but by and large, I suggest you visit this Wolf Creek when it hits the screens in November 2005. It will bite your head clean off! CLEAN OFF! --'The Arrow' (Arrow)

Wolf Creek is a film that will divide audiences and it is definitely not for the faint of heart. It is certainly not a film that I will be rushing out to see for a second time but it was very successful in what a true horror movie should do – scare the living wits out of you. -- (eFilmCritic.com)
“Wolf Creek” contains scenes that are genuinely creepy and spine-tingling thrilling, but overall this low-budget digital film feels a lot like it’s retracing familiar territory...Unfortunately for all, “Wolf Creek” is content to just run with the pack. C--Rebecca Murray (About.com)
If you're looking for a movie with a lot of blood and guts then look somewhere else, because this movie is built with suspsense and doesn't actually kick into gear until more than half-way. However, if you're looking for a realistic approach at the typical survival sub-genre, then I suggest you check this. 7/10--FrighT MasteR (UHM)
