DANNY TREJO (El Jefe) has developed a prolific career in the movie business, yet his road to success has been hard-earned and anything but typical. From imprisonment to helping young people battle drug addiction, acting to producing, the name, face, and achievements of Danny Trejo are well recognized in Hollywood.
Trejo grew up on the streets of East Los Angeles. Despite spending the latter part of his youth and early adulthood incarcerated, Trejo rose to accomplish what most only dream of. Upon his release from San Quentin, he became involved in programs aimed at helping those who, like him, battle drug and alcohol addictions.
Years later, Trejo went to the set of Runaway Train to offer support to a man he’d been counseling. He was immediately offered a role as a convict. Trejo has since gone on to appear in dozens of films, including Desperado, the From Dusk ‘Til Dawn series, Heat, 6 Days/7 Nights, Reindeer Games, the blockbuster Spy Kids and, more recently, The Salton Sea, Spy Kids II: The Island of Lost Dreams and Once Upon A Time in Mexico: Desperado 2. He’s also appeared on numerous television shows, including The District, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Resurrection Blvd., as well as co-starring in the Showtime telefilm Attica.
In 2000, Trejo formed Starburst, his production company. His first endeavor into producing films was The Animal Factory, which was directed by Steve Buscemi and starred Willem Dafoe and Edward Furlong.
