MICHAEL LEHMANN (Director) directed the hit The Truth About Cats and Dogs starring Uma Thurman, Janeane Garofalo and Ben Chaplin and the black comedy Heathers, his auspicious feature debut.
A San Francisco native, Lehmann studied art at the University of California at Berkeley and went on to receive a degree in philosophy from Columbia University. Shortly thereafter, he worked with Francis Ford Coppola at Zoetrope Studios, supervising experimental video systems used in the films One From the Heart, Rumble Fish and The Outsiders. Lehmann received an MFA degree in film from the University of Southern California in 1985.
While attending USC, Lehmann directed the short films Beaver Gets a Boner, and for "Saturday Night Live," Ed's Secret Life. The considerable attention he subsequently received led to a deal at New World Pictures, where he developed Heathers.
Lehmann's directorial credits also include My Giant, Airheads, Hudson Hawk and Meet the Applegates. He also served as executive producer on Tim Burton's Ed Wood.
Lehmann directed an episode of NBC's Emmy Award-winning hit series "The West Wing" in its first season. His television credits also include episodes of "The Larry Sanders Shows" and "Homicide: Life on the Street." Most recently he directed episodes of "Pasadena" and "Watching Ellie," starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Lehmann will next begin work on his adaptation of Donald Westlake's novel, The Ax, re- teaming with producer Michael London.
