Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Reviews |
The movie is not weighted down by plot, but it does have a recognizable storyline featuring legitimate characters and a few nice (but minor) twists. Some degree of attention is helpful - Terminator 3 is not an intellectual challenge, but neither is it vacuous. [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
In fact, all of the action sequences rocked and I especially loved how each one had its own twist and originality. This is one movie that really showcased its budget on the screen! But even with all that, even with all of its potent thrills, its three-dimensional characters and its solid screenplay moving the entire Terminator mythos to the next level, even I was surprised to see some emotion slip into the mix. [read review] 8/10 --'JoBlo' (JoBlo.com)
For all the hype and the inevitable (and most likely short-term) box office bonanza, ''Terminator 3'' is essentially a B movie, content to be loud, dumb and obvious, and to leave the Great Ideas to bona fide public intellectuals like Keanu Reeves and theHulk. [read review] --A.O. Scott (The New York Times)
They've tried hard to honor the spirit of the franchise, not exploit it, and take it to a new level and a surprising destination. They've also kept it mercifully short. If it's not the classic piece of sinew and gristle that "The Terminator" was, it's atleast a solidly professional attempt and a pretty good summer movie in the bargain. [read review] --Stephen Hunter (Washington Post)
Mostow can't do much with this wiggy script, short of trying to distract us with a nonstop demolition derby, including a chase with a crane truck and a truly ludicrous scene in which the Terminator and TX smash urinals over each other's heads. [read review] --Lou Lumenick (New York Post)
Where the previous film had scope, story, characters, effects, and action that were so good that they had awe dripping off of every frame, the only thing dripping off this new film is the three-week-old cheese nachos at the conscession stand! [read review] --Dante A. Ciampaglia (MovieWeb)
To sum up, there's nothing to fear in Rise of The Machines in regards to ruining the franchise. Its not the best addition to the series that could have been created, but its a very capable effort - perhaps even surprisingly good. [read review] 8.5/10 --Paul Boschen (Movie Marshal)
While Terminator 3 will never be mistaken for a sci-fi classic, it does just about everything a good summer movie should. On that level, it's certainly worth a look - not to mention a worthy sequel to James Cameron's creation. [read review] --David Nusair (Reel Film Reviews)
"Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" is a wonderful third installment. Some purists and major cult fans of the first two films may miss Cameron's directing style, but "Machines" has a much better script than the first two. [read review] --Paul Clinton (CNN Showbiz)
At last, a proper action movie that isn't bogged down by CGI effects. Though not as good as the first two, this is a chapter worthy of carrying the Terminator name. Don't miss this one. [read review] 8/10 --Gary Panton (Movie Gazette)
Is "Terminator 3" a skillful piece of work? Indeed. Will it entertain the Friday night action crowd? You bet. Does it tease and intrigue us like the earlier films did? Not really. [read review] --Roger Ebert (Chicago Sun-Times)
“Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” had to do one thing in order to satisfy me; stay true to the original Terminator saga. Lucky me, it does. Lucky the film, it works. [read review] --Scott Spicciati (Movie-Vault.com)
Terminator 3 is the perfect summer blockbuster – well-acted, intelligent, thrilling and with a healthy smattering of good gags. Highly recommended. [read review] --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
It's an exciting, creative action movie that will stand on its own without the training wheels of T1 and T2, and one you surely don't want to miss. [read review] --Brian Gallagher (MovieWeb)
It's a good old fashioned shoot'em-up action movie that points back to a time when a big man with an even bigger gun was classed as entertainment. [read review] --Carl Lazarevic (MovieWeb)
The effects in "T3" are spectacular, and the action sequences - particularly the fights between the good and bad terminators - are exhilarating. [read review] --Jack Mathews (New York Daily News)
What you make of it depends pretty much entirely on whether or not you can deal with a movie as lopsidedly one-dimensional as this one. [read review] 67/100 --Brian Webster (Apollo Guide)
A lean, efficient, amusing action picture, T3 isn't a patch on its predecessors, but delivers polished genre entertainment nonetheless. [read review] --Nev Pierce (BBC Films)
In what may be the weirdest campaign curtain-raiser in history, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as a decrepit robot in "Terminator 3." [read review] --Andrew O'Hehir (Salon)
The best one can say about Schwarzenegger's acting at that moment is that maybe, just maybe, it's supposed to be funny. [read review] --Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle)
Doesn’t come anywhere close to the epic feel of the second edition; it’s entertaining, but that’s about all I can say. [read review] B- --Lee Tistaert (Lee's Movie Info)
The chase is on. Through city blocks, suburbs, and construction sites, this action scene is AMAZING! [read review] --Twiztidserealkilla17 (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
T3 isn't the disappointment that was THE MATRIX RELOADED. This is a great action sequel! [read review] --Chad Law (MovieWeb)
An above average thriller from an above average director; little more. [read review] 7/10 --Jason Picker (Movie Marshal)
Easily the most satisfying and entertaining of the summer blockbusters [read review] B --Gareth Von Kallenbach (Lee's Movie Info)
A more surprising film then most Terminator fans would think. [read review] --The Riddler (MovieWeb)
