Plot: The second H.P. Lovecraft adaptation by Stuart Gordon, FROM BEYOND is pure Lovecraftian science-terror. Out-there scientist Dr. Pretorious (Ted Sorel) and his assistant, Dr. Tillinghast (Jeffery Combs), are working towards breaking through earthly perceptions and revealing a new alternate universe. They do this by stimulating the pineal gland of the human brain, which enables people to see the strange creatures that inhabit a parallel dimension. Unfortunately, these creatures can now see humans as well, and they are none too pleased with it. Dr. Pretorious is killed by the floating monstrosities, but the police blame his assistant for the murder and lock him up. external linkEntertaining and amusing flick from the makers of the great Re-Animator. Barbara Crampton is still amazing to look at. 3/4

external linkKinky in a safe sort of way; fun but not particularly interesting. There are a few moments in Stuart Gordon's piece that are actually pretty scary, but the rest of it is kind of forced--it deosn't possess the atmosphere a movie of this kind needs. 3/5

external linkAwesome! Another great gory horror movie from the mid-1980s, proof that the era was a true "golden age" for this stuff.

external linkA good, entertaining 80s horror flick with a great cast, colourful special effects, humour, suspense and gore. Third part slows it down but still worth seeing, especially if you like underrated horror star Jeffrey Combs. 4/5
