Plot: Back in the 1950s a young girl walked into a Catholic boarding school, doused the hallways with gasoline, and lit a cigarette. Needless to say, the school became a house of horror as it burned down in flames, leaving no survivors. 40 years later, the school has been condemned. A college prank requires a group of curious students to break into the chapel, which is now home to a gang of vengeful demons! THE CONVENT delivers equal parts laughs and shocks, with gore and creatures that harken back to the blood and effects-heavy horror films of the mid-1980s.

This obviously tongue-in-cheek throwback to 80's horror has a unserious tone that sort of gets tiresome as the script has Coolio in a comic relief role as a cop little realizing that ALL the characters in the movie are jokers. -- (TheVideoGraveYard.com)
One of the best horror films of the year, Mendez`s "The Convent" harks back to the golden era of gory horror: The 1980s.-- (eSplatter.com)
Mendez also annoys us with the use of a type of camera shot where the possessed appear to be walking very ruggitly, fast and choppy, its more annoying that the camera work in Blair Witch. --Mr Disgusting (Bloody-Disgusting.com)
