One rainy night, Dr. Garondet is summoned to the castle of Professor Orloff, but its not an easy trip – local peasants won't direct him there, and when he finally locates a willing coachman, his horse refuses to venture beyond a certain point!. Making it to the castle on foot, the good doctor meets Cecile (Brigitte Carva), Orloff's daughter, a seemingly deranged girl who is convinced that an invisible phantom is at large on the premises. A surprisingly urbane man, Orloff (Howard Vernon) explains the story behind Cecile's insanity – a story involving premature burial, grave robbing and flagellation – but as Garondet spends an uneasy night at the castle, he finds himself sharing in Cecile's delusions…
Alternately intriguing, surreal and entertainingly silly, Orloff And The Invisible Man benefits from the presence of Vernon in his prime, a neat finger-poppin jazz score that sounds like it drifted in from a German Edgar Wallace thriller, and a few sequences that are truly mind-boggling. If you thought Bela Lugosi was outrageous wrestling with a stuffed octopus in Ed Wood's Bride Of The Monster, wait till you see Orloff's scullery maid being attacked by his invisible man! Hell – wait till you see his invisible man!
