JOSH HARTNETT (Matt) is currently starring in Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down. He also starred in Jerry Bruckheimer's Pearl Harbor opposite Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale.
In 1999, Hartnett garnered significant critical and popular attention for his performance as Trip Fontaine in Sofia Coppola's acclaimed directorial debut, The Virgin Suicides.
In the recent O, a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's tragedy Othello, Hartnett portrayed Hugo Goulding, a character based on the nefarious Iago. In Miramax Films' black comedy Blow Dry, Hartnett starred opposite Alan Rickman and Natasha Richardson as Brian, a morgue beautician who becomes embroiled in a town rivalry between two competing beauty salons. In Town and Country, he played the son of Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton.
Hartnett made his feature film acting debut in 1998 as Jamie Lee Curtis' son in Halloween H20, earning an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Breakthrough Performance. He subsequently co-starred in the science fiction thriller The Faculty, written by Kevin Williamson and directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Born in San Francisco and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Hartnett took to acting at an early age. As a teenager, he landed several roles in various Minneapolis stage productions including "Into the Woods" at the Steppingstone Theatre, "Tom Sawyer" at Children's Theatre Company and "Freedom Riders" at the Youth Performance Center. Following graduation from South High School in 1996, Hartnett traveled to the East Coast to study acting at the State University of New York - Purchase. In February 1997, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue film and television work and quickly landed his first professional role on the ABC drama "Cracker."
