EDWARD BURNS was last seen starring opposite Robert DeNiro in the action thriller Fifteen Minutes. Before that he starred opposite Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. The critically acclaimed World War II epic marked the first picture in which Burns acted that he did not write and direct himself.
Burns' critically acclaimed first feature The Brothers McMullen premiered in competition at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize. As with Sidewalks of New York, he wrote, directed, produced and starred in The Brothers McMullen, which was shot on a budget of $25,000 and went on to gross over $10 million at the box office, making it pound-for-pound the most profitable film of its year. His other features include the romantic comedy She's The One, starring Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston and the intimate drama No Looking Back, co-starring Lauren Holly and Jon Bon-Jovi. In conjunction with the release of No Looking Back, Hyperion Press published Three Screenplays by Edward Burns.
Edward Burns and his brother Brian wrote, created and executive produced the half-hour comedy for NBC The Fighting Fitzgeralds, which stars Brian Dennehy.
As is true of "Tommy," the character he plays in Sidewalks of New York, Edward Burns was born in Woodside, Queens and raised on Long Island. He studied filmmaking at Hunter College before making The Brothers McMullen. He is currently in post-production on his latest film Ash Wednesday, which he also wrote, directed and produced starring alongside Elijah Wood, Rosario Dawson and Oliver Platt. Furthermore, he is acting opposite Angelina Jolie in the romantic comedy Life, or Something Like It.
