Casanova Reviews |
It's hard to imagine Casanova finding an audience. It's too juvenile for those who typically enjoy period pieces (even farcical ones). And those with an affinity for the silliness, slapstick, and tomfoolery of this sort of comedy will be turned off by the costumes. It's just as well because, for all of its uneven and inconsequential charms, Casanova doesn't offer enough to validate the price of admission. [read review] --James Berardinelli (ReelViews)
There’s no room for ill-will in CASANOVA, even for that unpleasant legate, who loses out by missing the point of the more tender emotions and thereby gets his own just deserts. Forget him and let the lush spectacle sweep you away. [read review] --Andrea Chase (Killer Movie Reviews)
"Casanova” is a soufflé of a film, light and airy, sweet, delicious. No nutritional value, really, just a sugary treat that could fall apart at any minute, but with the right chef, could also turn out to be a complete delight. [read review] --David Cornelius (eFilmCritic.com)
"Casanova” is a bawdy period romp that is naughty but nice. It is an intelligent romantic comedy that shows off Hallstrom eclectic directing skills. And, it’s very talented cast and 3-D characters make this a fun frolic, too. [read review] B,B
It has an "all's well that ends well" sort of finale, with every eligible character finding love and fulfillment while the bad guys are thwarted. It's pleasant, but it's predictable, far too airy to be remembered. [read review] C+ --Eric D. Snider (EricDSnider.com)
The plot soon makes Casanova into a man fighting for love, yet without the necessary foundation to establish his sacrifice, the arc has no meaning, and leaves the film a thudding, miscalculated bore. [read review] --Brian Orndorf (eFilmCritic.com)
If it were not for the calories, I would sooner get sugar to my brain by eating a Hershey bar than spending 110 minutes watching this. [read review] 4/10 --Tony Medley (TonyMedley.com)
This movie may not be particularly memorable--as “Tom Jones” was--but it makes for a pleasant couple of hours. [read review] B
And maybe, guys — just maybe — you can learn a thing or two about getting a girl… and keeping one. [read review] --Blake French (FilmCritic.com)
