If The Life of David Gale were a novel, it would be the kind of $6.99 paperback murder mystery you buy in the airport before a long flight. It's entertaining, but a little thin. --Leigh Johnson (Hollywood.com)
Does Kevin Spacey have a weird secret? Um, yeah, as always. But this death-penalty fable is so overwrought, no one will care.--Stephanie Zacharek (Salon)
"The Life of David Gale" is another tediously sanctimonious message movie from Alan Parker--Rita Kempley (Washington Post)
The political agenda in "The Life of David Gale" is so embarrassingly unadorned, you'll swear you just got flashed.--Desson Howe (Washington Post)
The Life of David Gale is a movie to enjoy equally if you are a thinker, or simply as a visual and emotional journey of great power. 7/10--Avril Carruthers (Movie-Vault.com)
But it's not exactly the edge-of-the-seat thriller it occasionally seems to think it is. --Jamie Russell (BBC Films)
How a single minute-long scene can ruin a whole film is beyond me but The Life of David Gale does it. 68/100--Jamie Gillies (Apollo Guide)
Well-acted but overlong and ultimately irritating drama – avoid the trailer if you’re even remotely interested in seeing it. --Matthew Turner (ViewLondon)
"The Life of David Gale" is so nasty, hysterical and long-winded - and unintentionally makes capital punishment foes look so twisted - you wish someone had administered a lethal injection to this dreck in its planning stages. --Lou Lumenick (New York Post)
...thriller that takes on the death penalty, strings an audience along and holds reasonable interest for the length of its running time. But by the end, it reveals itself as too pat, too absurd and -- as a polemic against capital punishment -- philosophically self-defeating.--Mick LaSalle (San Francisco Chronicle)

Just in case you are really in the mood for a character driven thriller that doesnt take a political position, but definitely gives you that nail biting tension, try renting THE JAGGED EDGE--Brandy Parrish (CountingDown)
Big things have been expected of this picture but, although certainly not one of the worst films you'll see this year, it's nowhere near as provocative as it clearly aspires to be. 6/10--Gary Panton (Movie Gazette)
