Synopses for Lilo & Stitch (2002)
1.

Warm, funny, and imaginative, Lilo & Stitch is the best animated feature the Walt Disney Studios have produced in years. On the planet Turo, mad scientist Jumba Jookiba (voice by David Ogden Stiers) has created a miniature monster programmed for destruction. When the monster escapes to Earth, it's adopted as a pet and named "Stitch" by Lilo (Daveigh Chase), a lonely little Hawaiian girl. Lilo and her older sister Nani (Tia Carrere) have been struggling to stay together since their parents died. Stitch and Lilo share some hilarious adventures, evading welfare officer Cobra Bubbles (Ving Rhames) and galactic police agents. They learn the timely lesson that a family can be something you're born into--or something you assemble. A warmth and sincerity that recall The Iron Giant and the films of Hiyao Miyazaki make Lilo a delightful fantasy adults and children can truly enjoy together. --Charles Solomon

2.Far, far away, on an alien planet, a rogue scientist named Jumba has created a bright blue creature called Experiment 626, through illegal genetic research. This new creature loves destruction and chaos; he's considered dangerous enough to be exiled to a deep space lockup. But 626 steals a spaceship and escapes, touching down in Hawaii, where he ends up in a dog pound. He's adopted by Lilo, a spunky young girl, who renames her new pet "Stitch."

Stitch turns out to be quite a handful--his destructive impulses are on full display as he trashes Lilo's house, among other naughty acts. Lilo is being raised by her older sister Nani (their parents died in an accident), and they are under surveillance by an evil social worker, Cobra Bubbles, who wants to take Lilo away from Nani. Lilo must tame Stitch, or his bad behavior could be held against Nani by Cobra. Meanwhile, Stitch is being pursued by his creator Jumba, who has followed him to Earth to try to recapture him. But Stitch becomes steadily more thoughtful and well-behaved as he grows to love Lilo and becomes a part of her family. The film's animation is done in the traditional 2-D style, complete with beautifully drawn watercolor backgrounds which give it a dreamy, colorful handcrafted appeal.

3.Life has its challenges for Lilo, a lonely little Hawaiian girl who lives with her nineteen-year-old sister/guardian, Nani. The two girls have been struggling to make it on their own and things aren’t going particularly well. When Cobra Bubbles, a no-nonsense social worker, drops by for a home visit, he finds the sisters in the middle of an argument and the house in a shambles. He warns Nani that she has three days to prove that she’s an appropriate guardian for Lilo or the situation will have to change. That evening, Lilo sees a falling star soar past her bedroom window and wishes for "someone to be her friend, someone who won’t run away." She adds, "Maybe send me an angel – the nicest angel you have."

In reality, the falling star is a spaceship belonging to Stitch, a mischief-making creature (officially known as "Experiment 626") who has escaped from the planet Turo. His creator, a mad scientist named Jumba, explains that Stitch is "bulletproof, fireproof, and can think faster than a supercomputer. He can see in the dark and move objects three thousand times his size. His only instinct…to destroy everything he touches."
