Three time Emmy Award-winning writer, director and executive producer DAVID MIRKIN (Director) began his career as a standup comic, performing at the Improvisation, the Comedy Store and other clubs around the country.
In 1984 he joined the writing staff of the hit show Newhart and was soon promoted to executive producer of the program, writing and directing many of the episodes. In 1986, Mirkin won his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. In 1990 Mirkin co-created the critically acclaimed Get a Life. He served as executive producer, head writer and also directed the majority of the episodes.
Mirkin then took over The Simpsons in 1994 as executive producer, head writer and vocal director. In a single year, he directed such legendary guest stars as Michelle Pfeiffer, Meryl Streep, Winona Ryder, Anne Bancroft, James Earl Jones, Albert Brooks, Mel Brooks and Paul McCartney.
For his work on The Simpsons Mirkin has received three Emmy Awards. In 1996 he also won the prestigious and highly coveted Peabody Award.
Mirkin has also worked on the award-winning The Larry Sanders Show, both writing and directing the groundbreaking hit that starred Garry Shandling.
In 1997, Mirkin turned his attention to feature films and directed the critical and financial success Romy and Michele's High School Reunion, staffing Lisa Kudrow. Mira Sorvino and Janeane Garofalo. The film received nominations from both the MTV Movie Awards and the American Comedy Awards.
Presently Mirkin continues his work on The Simpsons as well as creating new projects for film and television. He recently directed a music video for James Taylor that stars Barbara Hershey.
