Plot: With Catherine Deneuve and William Hurt in staring roles, this tale of two former lovers reuniting in New York City is a perfectly charming romantic drama. Deneuve plays Fanette, a French writer who heads to the Big Apple for a romantic rendevous. Or at least, those are her intentions. A chance meeting with photographer Matt (Hurt) puts paid to the original ambitions of Fanette's trip, and she becomes thoroughly seduced by his charms. As the coupling embark on a passionate affair, NEAREST TO HEAVEN borrows liberally from the old Cary Grant flick, AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER, as the story unfolds.
