The Wayans brothers and their hysterical cast of players are back for more laughs, delivering the summer's biggest, action packed, thrill ride of fun - SCARY MOVIE 2. Following the groundbreaking success of last year's sleeper blockbuster, SCARY MOVIE, Keenen Ivory, Marlon and Shawn Wayans are now taking aim at the world of the supernatural.
As the supernatural extension of the first film, SCARY MOVIE 2 casts its satirical eye on such iconic classics as "The Exorcist" and "Poltergeist," as well as the more recent films "Hannibal," "What Lies Beneath" and "The House on Haunted Hill." In addition to all things supernatural. it lunges even further, taking on pulp icons including "Charlie's Angels" and "Mission Impossible 2." Leaving nothing in their path, the Wayans go the final yard by parodying current pop culture, shamelessly tackling and weaving late night infomercials, television psychics and even the latest basketball commercial.
The films opens with a standout, send-up spoof of "The Exorcist," featuring James Woods as the non conventional priest Father McFelly, assigned to purge a head twisting Natasha Lyonne of an other worldly poltergeist. Then, picking up where they left off, the Wayans comically reunite with heroine Cindy Campbell, now a prospering college coed. A mad professor (Tim Curry) stealthily recruits her and her group of thrill seeking classmates for a weekend getaway under the auspices of a scientific experiment. As the ever shocking and often extra-curricular activities of the weekend unfold, the hilarious surprises keep the fun coming.
Directed by Keenen Ivory Wayans, SCARY MOVIE 2 features a lively and talented ensemble cast that includes Anna Fans, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, James Woods, Chris Elliott, Andy Richter, Natasha Lyonne, David Cross, Regina Hall, Kathleen Robertson, Tori Spelling and Richard Moll.
The Wayans Brothers are no strangers to satire. They are the creators of television's "In Living Color," and the feature film farces, "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka" and "Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood."
Says Keenen Ivory Wayans, "The idea for SCARY MOVIE 2 began when I realized that many supernatural films are filled with the same hilarious moments we've come to expect — pop culture moments begging to be parodied."
"What was fun about making this movie was the chance to go back and watch my favorite movies from growing up that have influenced my life. It also gave me the chance to spoof recent thrillers, too!
"You need to take on a genre that includes hundreds of films. SCARY MOVIE took on slasher movies. This one takes on the conventions and cliches of supernatural films," says co -writer and star Marion Wayans.
Co-writer and star Shawn Wayans adds, "Our primary goal is for the audience to have as much fun watching as we do making these movies. We have discovered that with all recent and past pop culture, the material for spoofing is endless!
