Synopses for And Your Mother Too (2001)
1.

Plenty of juicy "s" words apply to And Your Mother Too: sexy, sweet, subtle, sad, surprising, superb... and did we say sexy? With enough male and female nudity to qualify as softcore porn--but deserving none of the stigma attached to that label--this vibrant coming-of-age road movie is guaranteed to jumpstart any viewer's libido. Frank treatment of its characters' burgeoning sexuality makes this unrated film a real eye-opener, but it's never prurient or juvenile. Rather, the three-way odyssey of two 17-year-old Mexican boys (Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna) and a 28-year-old Spanish beauty (Maribel Verdú) is energetic and affirmative, while acknowledging that relationships--and sexual adventures--rarely develop without a hitch or two (or three). Filmed in sequence by Alfonso Cuarón (Great Expectations), and shot with invigorating natural style, this refreshing comedy-drama employs an omniscient narrator to reflect upon precious stolen moments, weaving three lives into a memorable tapestry of fun, friendship, and fate. --Jeff Shannon

2.The lives of Julio and Tenoch, like those of seventeen-year old boys everywhere, are ruled by raging hormones, intense friendships, and a headlong rush into adulthood. Over the course of a summer, the two best friends, while living out a carefree cross-country escapade with a gorgeous older woman, also find connection with each other, themselves and the world around them. Just days after the boys trade heartfelt good-byes with their sexy, young girlfriends who are headed to Italy for summer vacation, their attention is diverted by Luisa, a stunning twenty-eight year old Spaniard. At a family wedding in Mexico City, the boys awkwardly flirt with Luisa, who is married to a distant cousin of Tenoch’s. Fueled by alcohol and her beauty, the boys invite Luisa to accompany them on a road trip to a remote beach with the romantic name of Boca del Cielo -- Heaven’s Mouth -- neglecting to mention that they wouldn’t know where to find it, even if it actually did exist. Luisa humors the boys, but not without first fueling their vivid imaginations. A few days later, Luisa, receives some heartbreaking news and, needing a change of scenery, tracks down the boys and accepts their offer. The unlikely trio hits the road, their destination not so much Boca del Cielo as that seductive and mysterious place where innocence, sexuality, and friendships collide.

As the saying goes, you never really know someone until you travel with him. With the car closing in upon them, Julio and Tenoch are forced to reveal to each other sides of their personalities they had never before even dared to explore. Though best friends for years, the boys realize they had often taken each other for granted, not seeing the person in front of them as more than a façade or an attitude. Luisa is the catalyst of self-discovery. Her presence brings out the best – and the worst – in the two friends. At times a sexy seductress, at other times the maternal figure each of the friends is lacking, Luisa, too, finds out what is important to her. As the road leading to the elusive Boca del Cielo becomes more desolate and inhospitable, the protagonists find there is no escape from a confrontation with their innermost demons and desires. -- © IFC Films

3.  "Wildly Erotic!" -Rolling Stone

From world-renowned director Alfonso Cuaron (A Little Princess, Great Expectations) comes this "provocatively and unapologetically sexual" (Los Angeles Times) coming-of-age tale. Nomintated for a Golden Globe, this sizzling box-office sensation is not only "raucously funny" (New York Post) but also "one of the most compellingly sexy movies ever made" (The San Diego Union-Tribune).

Julio and Tenoch are two teens ruled by raging hormones and a mission to consume exotic substances. But one summer, the boys learn more about life than they bargain for when they set off on a wild cross-country trip with seductive, 28-year-old Luisa. Both boys taste forbidden fruit as Luisa schools them in the finer points of passion, but will their mutual desire for her destroy their friendship forever?

4.If you're in need of a teen road movie that's more than a collection of "tit-n-bum" jokes, then look no further than Y Tu Mama Tambien ("And Your Mother Too"). Alfonso Cuaron (yes, the director signed up for Harry Potter 3) has managed to create a sexy road movie without a single cheerleader popping up in anyone's bed. Instead he brings together a strong cast of Spanish/Mexican actors--including the rising star Gael García Bernal and the enigmatic Maribel Verdú--with a heady mixture of dusty roads and raging hormones.

Leaving the poverty and grim reality of Amores Perros (the other hit Mexican movie of recent times, also starring Bernal) far behind, Y Tu Mama Tambien is set among the upper classes where two teenage friends, Julio and Tenoch, are left in a state of limbo when their girlfriends take a trip to Europe. But rather than resting on their laurels, they choose to chase a much bigger prize: Tenoch's cousin's wife, Luisa. When she takes up their offer to go on a trip to a mystical beach, the boys can't believe their luck; little do they know that Luisa is using them as a means to run away and forget. Here begins the boys' trip towards adulthood as they learn to control their hormones, jealousies and selfishness. Y Tu Mama Tambien's explicit scenes are more than mere titillation, just as the plot is more than a simple sex comedy. --Nikki Disney
