Synopses for Cats & Dogs (2001)
1.

How can you hate a movie that features ninja Siamese cats wreaking havoc with their kung fu prowess? That's one of the highlights in Cats & Dogs, an effects-laden family film that mystifies cat fanciers by casting dogs as the undisputed heroes in all-out warfare with nefarious felines. Hidden headquarters and high-tech gadgets are featured on both sides of this age-old battle. On the feline side, the longhaired Persian Mr. Tinkles (voice of Sean Hayes) plots to sabotage the efforts of Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum) to discover a cure for human allergies to dogs. On the canine side, stalwart shepherd Butch (voice of Alec Baldwin) trains the mistakenly recruited beagle puppy Lou (voice of Tobey Maguire) to foil Mr. Tinkles's scheme--a mission that begins when Mrs. Brody (Elizabeth Perkins) adopts Lou for her son Scott (Alexander Pollock).

Using combinations of live animals, animatronic puppets, and digital wizardry, Cats & Dogs has just enough imagination to match its effects, climaxing with a feline global-domination scheme involving mice sprayed with chemicals that will make all humans allergic to dogs. Goldblum and Perkins gamely play second fiddles to this menagerie of mayhem, and as madcap "realism" gives way to cartoonish fantasy, the movie escalates into utter chaos, burdened by lame jokes but highlighted by a furry supporting cast including a Saluki hound (voice of Susan Sarandon), a shaggy sheepdog (voice of Michael Clarke Duncan), and a Chinese hairless techno-geek named Peek (voice of Joe Pantoliano). Though never as charming as the Babe movies, Cats & Dogs is harmless fun--especially for dog lovers. --Jeff Shannon

2.In the outrageous comedy CATS & DOGS, Professor Brody (Jeff Goldblum) is on the verge of discovering a chemical formula that would give humans immunity to dog allergies, making dogs the clear favorite of humans over cats, their age-old enemies. When a power-mad white Persian cat named Mr. Tinkles (voiced by Sean Hayes) decides to kidnap the professor and his family and attempt to reverse the formula, making all humans allergic to dogs, canine operative Butch (voiced by Alec Baldwin) and young, hapless recruit Lou (voiced by Tobey Maguire) must stop Mr. Tinkles's nefarious plans.

Blending live action with realistic puppetry and seamless computer animation, CATS & DOGS reveals an amusingly secretive world of talking felines and canines where cats parachute out of stealth planes in night-vision goggles and dogs operate hi-tech computer equipment. And in one of the film's most stunning sequences, a Russian mercenary kitten attacks the Brody household with an arsenal of weapons including plastic explosives and bladed boomerangs. Entertaining for both children and adults, the film also features Elizabeth Perkins and the vocal talents of Susan Sarandon, Jon Lovitz, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Joe Pantoliano.

3.Since the beginning of time, a war for control of planet Earth has been fought between two worthy adversaries. It is a war so secret, so covert that it could be happening in your very own living room!

Unbeknownst to humans, the struggle for world domination between cats and dogs has been held in check by an uneasy truce. But that period of peace is about to disintegrate. A power-mad Persian cat, Mr. Tinkles, has broken from the fray to lead a massive feline movement against man's best friend. The crack canine agents, who have been protecting the entire human race, are in trouble. One of their top field dogs has been put out of commission and they have been forced to employ the use of a rookie Beagle puppy agent named Lou.

As the maniacal Mr. Tinkles and his army of highly trained soldiers begin a mass mobilization, the fate of humankind rests in the paws of a young pup that has yet to prove himself in battle. With mercenaries, assassins and secret agents running amok, will puppy love and ingenuity be enough to save the world?

This isn't cute. This isn't cuddly. This is war!

5.They're cunning. They're stealthy. They're waging a top-secret, ultra-high-tech struggle for global domination right under our noses. They're…Cats & Dogs!

Witness this epic "tail" of what happens when an eccentric professor (Jeff Goldblum) makes a discovery that could tip the age-old balance of pet power. Now, an inexperienced young beagle pup named Lou (voiced by Tobey Maguire) is about to begin the ultimate mission im-paws-ible: to save humanity from a total cat-tastrophe! Featuring the voices of Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon, Jon Lovitz, Charlton Heston and Sean Hayes.
