John Lee Hancock in Alamo, The (2004)

JOHN LEE HANCOCK (director/co-screenwriter) returns to the director’s chair following the smashing success of last year’s inspirational sports drama, “The Rookie,” one of the year’s critical and commercial hits.

Hancock’s own inspirational story started in a Houston law office, where he practiced law for three years after earning his B.A. degree in English from Baylor and his J.D. from Baylor Law School. With an interest in the arts, and an affinity for creative writing, the Texas City native got involved in theatre. He served as a member of Fountainhead Theatre Company and, with Brandon Lee, founded Legal Aliens Theatre Company in Los Angeles, where he wrote-anddirected the plays “Full-fed Beast”, “Riff For Emily” and "Ten to Midnight".

Relinquishing his chosen profession, Hancock apprenticed in the motion picture arena, where he worked in a variety of production positions while continuing to write plays and scripts.

He next sold his original screenplay, “A Perfect World,” to Warner Bros., with Clint Eastwood directing and co-starring alongside Kevin Costner and Laura Dern. He reunited with Eastwood a few years later when he adapted John Berendt’s huge bestseller, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil,” with Eastwood directing stars John Cusack and Kevin Spacey. In addition to his screenwriting career, Hancock also produced (along with Mark Johnson) the heartwarming period drama, “My Dog Skip,” which starred Kevin Bacon, Diane Lane and Frankie Muniz.

Hancock also tackled the small screen, where he created, produced and directed episodes of the CBS drama, “L.A. Doctors,” and executive produced the CBS drama, “Falcone.”
