The Mexican portion of filming was done in the state of Morelos and in Acapulco, showcasing some spectacular homes and ocean views.
The real George Jung sits in a prison cell in upstate New York. Without possibility of parole, Jung won’t be released until 2015.
Depp acknowledges the responsibility that comes with portraying a real person, but also the responsibility of the filmmakers. "I knew Ted was committed to the film, but I didn’t understand how deeply committed he was to the real George and the real Mirtha."
Because of the long gestation period of getting the project to the screen, Demme notes that he has become close with the actual George Jung. "Johnny would do something or I’ll see a scene cut together and it reminds me that we are making a movie about a guy and his family," says the director.
"It’s been an amazing experience to have this project for so long and finally see it happen. And then, to get this type of cast involved and the incredible efforts from the crew behind the scenes… it has been truly amazing," summarizes Demme.
