Plot: This screen adaptation of Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" takes place in 1890 Wales. The story revolves around distinguished professor Alexander Blathwaite and his young wife Helen, who visit the isle and stay with Alexander's brother-in-law Ieuan. Things begin to go awry when both Ieuan and Michael, the supposedly moralistic town doctor, take more than a serious interest in Helen. The resulting emotional machinations of all four serve to change their lives forever.
